About Us

Lighter Footprints is a local climate group committed to leading effective climate action.

Working together, we can do so much more than alone. For over a decade, we have educated, advocated and brought people together to inform the community and promote a clean energy future.

Our core activities are:

Meetings and Community Forums

Our regular community meetings feature an exciting variety of expert speakers on clean energy, sustainability and climate action. We also run large public events once or twice a year featuring experts and/or politicians.

Mission

Lighter Footprints aims to educate, advocate and bring people together to inform the community, create the momentum for change and influence Australian decision makers to take the action necessary to halt global warming as a matter of urgency.

Vision

As a committed local climate action group, Lighter Footprints aims to lead and stimulate action that will help to ensure a clean energy future.

Independence and Governance

Lighter Footprints is a non-partisan organisation powered by community support. Lighter Footprints does not receive donations from any political party or associated entities. Members and supporters are active in the community and act on their own behalf in a variety of ways.

At election times (local, state and federal), Lighter Footprints facilitates elector understanding of candidates’ positions on climate related policy. All candidates are invited to candidate forums where they have an opportunity to state their policies and positions and respond to elector questions.

We do not require our committee, volunteers or supporters to disclose their political affiliations, and many people involved in Lighter Footprints, including committee members, will support individual candidates in their personal capacity.

Lighter Footprints is an incorporated association. The Lighter Footprints committee  has overall responsibility for the activities of the association, including its financial management and reporting obligations. Typically, committee members are not members of a political party. However, membership of a political party would not preclude a person from joining the Lighter Footprints committee, so long as they commit to the Lighter Footprints principle of non-partisanship when volunteering with us.

At present, none of our eleven committee members is a member of a political party.

Lighter Footprints is a member of the climate peak bodies Victorian Climate Action Network (VCAN) and Climate Action Network Australia (CANA).
